The N1 highway near Polokwane has been closed due to a bus accident that happened earlier on Friday. The accident happened near the Caltex garage as the bus was leaving Polokwane, Limpopo Transport department spokesperson Matome Moremi said.
According to Moremi, the driver allegedly lost control of the bus, resulting in it rolling down an embankment.
“The number of fatalities cannot be confirmed at this stage but 17 people have been left injured,” he said.
10 people are reported to have been killed. Matome Moremi has confirmed that the road has been closed in order to clear the scene and advised motorists to rather use the R101.
No comment has been made by the police so far.
