Among the injured was an 8-month-old baby, who was reportedly in a critical condition.
Seventeen people, including an 8-month-old baby, were injured when a taxi rolled off the R55 road and onto the N14 highway in Olievenhoutbosch in Midrand on Sunday, emergency service ER24 said.
Spokesperson Russel Meiring said ER24 paramedics and other services found the taxi lying on its roof blocking two lanes. The passengers had already climbed out of the vehicle.
“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that an 8-month-old boy had sustained critical injuries while sixteen others had sustained minor to moderate injuries,” he said.
“They were treated for their injuries, and the critically injured patient provided with advanced life support interventions, before they were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.”
Local authorities were on the scene to investigate.
