IFP goes to court to prevent Gumede appointment

South Africa

Durban – The IFP wants Zandile Gumede out of the KwaZulu Natal legislature.

The party filed court papers challenging her re-appointment as an ANC MPL on Wednesday.

It said the decision was irrational.

The party released a statement, saying: this matter goes beyond the Zandile Gumede-saga. The ANC must be sent a clear message that the country can no longer tolerate the ANC’s business-as-usual approach when it comes to placing corrupt individuals at the helm of key institutions.”

The former eThekwini mayor was sworn in August but was later put on a leave of absence after a huge public outcry.

Gumede was fired from her mayoral position in 2019 after she was charged with corruption, fraud and racketeering.
