Johannesburg – Newly appointed Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is breathing a sigh of relief as he is about to start his new job in South Africa.
And that’s because the FIFA World Cup qualifiers which were set to get underway in June have been pushed to September.
In a statement released on Thursday, FIFA said the reason to postpone the World Cup qualifiers for Africa was due to the ‘disruption caused by Covid-19’.
The news will come as a relief to the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Broos who will now have three months to prepare his first Bafana Bafana squad.
Broos was brought in with a clear mandate and that is to help Bafana Bafana qualify fort he 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.
The global tournament is scheduled to take place between 21 November and 18 December 2022
Bafana Bafana are in Group G alongside Ethiopia, Ghana and Zimbabwe.
