Two Chinese nationals have been arrested in Zambia, over allegations that they were giving illegal military training to members of a local security firm, the Lusaka Times reported on Tuesday. Police say the group had been conducting training without clearance from the authorities.
One was arrested on Saturday and another on Sunday in the country’s tourist capital, Livingstone. In total, at least 11 people, including Zambians, were arrested in the operation. Among those arrested include a Zambian director of Alert Safety Security in Livingstone while nine others were detained near the Livingstone Weighbridge.
The suspects were found in possession of one pistol, seven shotguns, and one big air gun with a box containing shotgun ammunition, allegedly belonging to a security company based in the capital Lusaka.
The group are reported to have been conducting training without clearance from the police while the uniforms they were using look similar to the one used by National Parks and Wildlife Authority.
The military uniforms in question were imported from China.
