Johannesburg – The Public Protector does not have powers to subpoena confidential taxpayer information. This is according to the Constitutional Court.
Busisiwe Mkhwebane approached the court after the High Court ruled against her.
The public protector wanted the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to hand over former president, Jacob Zuma’s private record.
The court ruled on Tuesday, however, that her office does not have the power to do so.
