eThekwini council to elect mayor

South Africa

Durban – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has made it a triple whammy in Gauteng, electing its own people as mayors in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane.

This is thanks to support from ActionSA, the EFF, and other smaller parties.

But can the party take Durban too?

The DA is hoping to clinch Durban following a power outage and some unhappy ANC supporters derailing the meeting.

As the DA’s Randall Williams holds on to his mayoral chain in Tshwane, the city of eThekwini’s first council meeting, earlier this week.

However, forming a coalition will prove to be difficult.

If all the opposition band together, the DA is most likely to take it but the ANC, with most seats, could have a trick up its sleeve.
