Gauteng Premier, ministers visit Diepsloot

South Africa

Johannesburg – A high level delegation including Police Minister Bheki Cele, Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and Gauteng Premier David Makhura have spent Friday morning assessing security in Diepsloot.

The police have released a statement disputing the number of people murdered since March 30.

They claim the Diepsloot Police Station has record of five reported murders, this is in contradiction of the seven mentioned by Premier David Makhura and numerous community members.

There are also reports of discrimination where people are being asked for documentation.

The Diepsloot Community Policing Forum says a long-term sustainable solution is needed to fight crime in the area.
