Johannesburg – An explosion at the Palmiet water pumping station has left several suburbs in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane without water.
According to Rand Water, the explosion took place at the Alberton booster pump station on Sunday, leaving three pumps destroyed.
The Palmiet station supplies reservoirs operated by Rand Water and is now pumping well below capacity.
The cause of the explosion is still not known, and repairs are currently underway.
Municipalities will communicate details of affected suburbs.
