Hawks warn of spike in cyber scams

South Africa

Johannesburg – The Hawks have swooped on a syndicate suspected of swindling a US-based company out of over R7 million.

The crime fighting unit worked with US secret service agents and Interpol to make the arrests in Johannesburg.

In March, Hawks boss Godfrey Lebeya appeared before Parliament highlighting staff shortages.

He said each investigator had to deal with at least 15 cases.
