Ivory Coast reopens restaurants and bars

Ivory Coast – As restrictions have been eased to help the economy, Ivory Coast has reopened restaurants and bars in all provinces except the main city, Abidjan.

President Alassane Ouattara said there had been “satisfactory results” so far but also warned that “we have not yet won the battle”.

“No positive case has been detected in the interior of the country since April 21,” the president said in a televised address.

He added that gatherings of up to 200 people are now allowed but social distancing has to be ensured. Curfew hours have also been shortened to begin at 23:00 instead of 21:00.

Restaurants and bars in the capital city of Abidjan will remain closed until at least 15 May. The president said this decision within the government on the state of the economy.

President Ouattaradeclared a state of emergency in March to prevent the spread of the virus.

Ivory Coast has 1,571 cases of coronavirus including 20 deaths.
