Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara will on Tuesday meet his predecessor Laurent Gbagbo.
This will be their first meeting since the post-election violence in 2010 in which 3,000 people were killed and up to a million displaced, according to UN data.
The meeting is set to take place at the Presidential palace.
Gbagbo spent seven years in detention at the International Criminal Court before being acquitted of war crimes in 2019.
Both men have been pushing for peace and reconciliation.
Gbagbo’s spokesperson told a press conference that Ouattara ad Gbagbo spoke on the phone ahead of Tuesday’s talks.
Gbagbo recently announced that he and another former president – Henri Konan Bedie – were uniting to oppose President Ouattara.
