This past Sunday, South Africa lost one of its most talented and hardworking fashion designers Quiteria Kekana. Following his untimely passing, his friends, fans and colleagues have taken to social media to pay their tributes.
Opening up about the relationship she had with Quiteria, a heartbroken Makhadzi says he was “the only person she trusted with her personal issues.” In 2019, Makhadzi lost everything and Quiteria was one of the few people who reached out to her.
“You sent me a DM to come to your workshop so we can start working together, when I arrive in your workshop they were a lot of celebrity people, and I remained in my car waiting for people to go, just because I thought people will judge me and maybe can see in my face that I am going through a lot,” Makhadzi shared.
Quiteria told Makhadzi she deserved to be there just as much as everyone else. “I want everyone who took you for granted to know that you are a queen, but you lack a designer, allow me to be your stylist,” he told Makhadzi.
Furthermore, Makhadzi attributes the love she got during the lockdown period to the late designer. “I was slaying because of you, my lockdown performance I was slaying with beautiful costumes because of you,” Makhadzi wrote.
