Orlando Pirates cannot be written off in the PSL title race

Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids has refused to write off his team’s chances of winning the league title this season.

This after Pirates suffered a 2-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns who are defending the crown and are strong favourites to win the league.

Davids said Sundowns’ win over Pirates last weekend doesn’t guarantee the Tshwane giants will easily win the championship.

Currently, Pirates are on eight points after five games, and they are five points behind leaders Sundowns who also played the same number of games.

“No, you cannot write Pirates off for the league. Winning against us does not guarantee Sundowns the league title,” said Davids.

He vowed Pirates will be fighting for every trophy on offer this season – and that’s the league and the Nedbank Cup.

In addition, Pirates still have the CAF Confederation Cup to compete for after qualifying by virtue of finishing third last season.

“We will fight for each trophy that is available and we will go for it flat out right until the end of each tournament.

“By no means we are giving up and say, ‘everything is taken by Sundowns’,” Davids added.
