Foreign nationals in Middleburg, Mpumalanga have been urged by police to move to safer places, due to widespread looting in the area.
Residents took to the streets in search of foreign-owned shops after a woman’s burnt body was found on Wednesday morning. One arrest has been made.
Officials say the situation deteriorated on Wednesday night.
“We thought the situation was brought back to calm, however during the evening it was intensified,” said police spokesperson Leonard Hlathi.
“They must pack up and pack their groceries while we deal with the situation and contain it.
