Pupils want to finish school year

South Africa

Johannesburg – Can the department of education save the academic year?

That is the question many pupils, parents and teachers are asking themselves, as the government enforces yet another school closure.

Learners now have to stay at home for a month except for matrics, who will have a week’s break.

Learners say they are remaining positive about the passing at the end of the year.

Covid-19 has almost destroyed the academic year.

Sabelo Zulu, a grade 12 learner from Snakepark in Soweto says they need their teachers now more than ever.

“This coronavirus has affected us as Grade 12 because we need more time with our teachers and we need more understanding from them. From my side, I can say that I need it, not knowing about others but I understand work more if the teacher has explained it to me,” he says.
