Rape-accused church leader to apply for bail

South Africa

Johannesburg – Rape-accused Apostle Benjamin Dingiso is expected to take the stand at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

He is applying for bail.

The leader of The Arise and Shine Gospel Church faces 13 charges of rape and sexual assault.

He has been accused of abusing young men and boys since 2009. The 52-year-old says he will plead not guilty on the charges.

Dingiso says he’s being targeted by an apostle who wants his church. He also claims police tortured him to admit to the crimes.

The state is opposing bail.
