SA’s electricity crisis: Call to procure additional capacity

South Africa

Johannesburg – The country is going nowhere because of rolling blackouts.

That is according to independent energy expert, Lungile Mashele.

She said government needs to procure additional capacity.

“If nothing is done, we are going to have this conversation throughout the winter, into the summer months and for the next couple of years,” Mashele said.

“What Eskom and government need to do is to procure additional capacity.

“But before we get there, the most immediate thing is carrying out reliability maintenance.”

Eskom has reduced blackouts to Stage 3 until Friday.
