A package that appears to have been an explosive device was found in a mail box outside the New York residence of billionaire George Soros on Monday, police said.
George Soros is one of the world’s biggest donors to liberal groups and causes. He has now become a hate figure for right-wing campaigners in the United States and eastern Europe, and the target of a hostile media campaign by the government in his birth country Hungary.
An employee at his home in Katonah, New York, opened the package finding what seemed like an explosive device while Soros was away from home, the New York Times reported.
Authorities were contacted and a team of bomb squad technicians detonated the package in a nearby wooded area, police told the newspaper.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation were investigating the case, police said.
