Kapasa Musonda is 28 years old, she’s based in Lusaka, Zambia and is one of Africa’s rising talents and founder of clothing line – Mangishi Doll. In fact, one of her designs was worn by the Hollywood A Lister Angela Bassett, early this year while gracing the screens in the film, Black Panther.
Founded in 2012, Mangishi Doll is made up of two clothing lines, MD, a contemporary women’s line and the high-end women’s line, DULA. The Zambian native has been featured in E News, Daily Mail, Fashion Bomb Daily and melanin VIP queens such as Angela Bassett rocking her designs.
What got you into fashion design?
“Growing up I always knew I wanted to do something artistic and then right about my 12th grade I knew it was going to be fashion and I got a scholarship for it and that was a plus.”
Where do you get your inspiration from
“I love prints and I love bold colors, that’s really what sticks to me.”
Where do you see your fashion career going in the next five to ten years?
“I hope that it would just touch every part of the world and I would love to have a flagship store as well.”
What advice would you give to women like yourself who are looking to get into the fashion industry?
“First of all, you have to be sure of what you want. And when you’re sure you have to go for it. It requires a lot of hard work, but then a lot of light at the end of the tunnel. “
What makes you a Royal Woman?
“I’m confident in who I am and very proud of where I come from.”
