Facebook announced that it has released a redesigned version of Messenger called Messenger 4 with the aim to bring back simplicity to your chats.
The reason for the update is due to the findings of a survey the company conducted which resulted in simplicity being a top priority for users on the platform.
Seven out of 10 (71 percent) people told us simplicity is the top priority for them in a messaging app.
Among people surveyed who are messaging more frequently, 62 percent say messaging makes them feel closer to their friends.
“We believe Messenger 4 delivers the closeness and authenticity that you’ve been asking for — through simplicity of design and powerful features that put the focus back on messaging and connecting,” said Stan Chudnovsky, Vice President of Messenger in a statement.
The company listed the following changes found in Messenger 4:
1. Easier to navigate
Facebook has decreased the number of tabs in Messenger to have three tabs instead of nine.
This will include a Chats tab, People tab, you can find friends, catch up on people’s Stories, and the Discover tab, where you can connect with businesses to get the latest deals, play Instant Games, book your next vacation, follow the news and more.
2.New ways to personalise conversations
Messenger 4 will allow users to create chat customisations called colour gradients.
With this feature, you can now use multiple colours to customise your chat bubbles in conversations. You can see the colors change from red to blue, for example, as you scroll up and down a conversation.
3. Other changes
The company states that it will add other new features in the near future such as Dark Mode, a re-skinned interface that cuts down on the glare from your phone.
“While Messenger 4 is all about simpler and easier-to-use messaging, we’re still keeping all of the features that help you connect with the people you care about. Whether you want to poll your friends on which movie to see, split the bill for last night’s dinner, share your live location to find friends at a music festival, challenge them to your favourite games, or catch up in a group video chat, we aren’t changing anything about what you’ve always loved about Messenger,” said Chudnovsky.
