Johannesburg – Teachers and healthcare workers have been the biggest defrauders of the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)’s Temporary Employee Relief Scheme, known as TERS.

This has been revealed in an investigation of over 6,000 civil servants who submitted claims of over R350-million, despite earning their salaries.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has also found seven UIF officials colluded ton TERS awareness campaigns, costing the fund over R6-million.

In most cases, the SIU said the fraudsters are acknowledging their wrongdoing and paying back the money.
