Cape Town – The Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga today will be meeting Parliament’s Portfolio Committee and the Select Committee on Education to brief them with regard to the status of schooling following the lockdown.
Schools in South Africa have been closed since before the lockdown was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa in March.
The minister was supposed to have the briefing on Monday but the much-anticipated briefing was postponed. Basic Education department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said the postponement “was necessitated by the need to align with other interventions that are to be taken by the National Command Council later this week.”
Minister Angie Motshekga will be joined by Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande in the briefing.
