Cape Town – Democratic Alliance (DA) leader in the Western Cape, Albert Fritz has stepped down from his duties amid sexual assault allegations levelled against him.

The Western Cape MEC for Community Safety and provincial DA leader has a sexual misconduct allegation against him. A woman brought to light her ordeal with Fritz and the matter is being investigated.

The allegations were brought to the attention of Premier Alan Winde.

The Premier said a full investigation has been initiated and that Fritz has offered his full cooperation to ensure an unhindered process.

While the DA has not shared details as to what led to Fritz’s suspension, they can confirm that the allegations are being taken seriously. However, News24 reported that there are several women who have come forward, stating they have been victims of Albeit Fritz.

According to reports, four more senior DA officials have been suspended for their involvement in the sexual assault scandal.

The men are accused of grooming young women, mostly interns and procuring the women for Fritz. It is alleged the men used alcohol to inebriate the women, especially when travel was involved.
