Bill cosby sentenced to 3-10 years in prison for sexual assault

Bill Cosby, the 81-year-old comedian, who was convicted of sexually assaulting Andrea Constand, has been sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison. Judge Steven O’Neill, who presided over the sentencing hearing, said “nobody is above the law because of where they live, who they are, wealth, fame, celebrity or even philanthropy.”

The 81 year old was ordered to be remanded into custody, saying, ‘You were convicted of a very serious crime, no one should be treated differently.’

Bill Cosby was given a sentence that will last up to at least three years in prison and branded a “sexually violent predator” for assaulting a woman at his Philadelphia mansion 14 years ago.

He is the first celebrity to be convicted and sentenced for a sex crime since the downfall of Harvey Weinstein ushered in the #MeToo movement and America’s reckoning with sexual harassment. He was found guilty five months ago for drugging and molesting Andrea Constand, a former university basketball administrator, Cosby was impassive when Judge Steven O’Neill handed down the sentence in Norristown, Pennsylvania.

Additionally, he becomes the most famous American ever ordered to serve a prison sentence. The US was known in the past as a country where fame and unlimited wealth were spent on brilliant lawyers in order for celebrities to avoid jail.
