Johannesburg – The tobacco industry is pleading with Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana not to increase sin taxes above inflation.
It says this will have a dire effect on the sector.
The Fair Trade Independent Tobacco Association said it is still reeling from Covid-19 lockdown bans.
“We would like for Treasury not to impose an increase in excise taxes as we have seen, of course, the industry struggling in as far as coming back from the effects of the ban of sales on cigarettes during 2020,” said Fita’s Sinenhlanhla Mnguni.
