City Power concerned by reports of corruption, nepotism

South Africa

Johannesburg – City Power in Johannesburg says it is very concerned about reports of corruption and nepotism within its ranks.

This follows 200 vacancies that were advertised at the power utility.

On Monday, employees of City Power were not allowed to enter their offices after protesters blocked them. They stood next to their vehicles outside their offices in Booysens, Johannesburg.

According to the protesters, they had applied for some of the advertised positions but the electricity entity had failed to employ them as promised.

They said the entity had employed people who didn’t apply.

Protesters claimed that some candidates paid R3 500 each to skip the queue and secure employment.
