Johannesburg -Eskom has implemented Stage 4 rolling blackouts and will continue until Friday morning.
Stage 2 will then be implemented until Monday.
The power utility said four generating units tripped in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Eskom said it is working very hard to avoid Stage 6 load shedding.
