Johannesburg – FlySafair will meet with the Competition Commission regarding its recent steep price increases.

These occurred in the wake of the grounding of Comair, which saw many passengers stranded.

However, FlySafair’s Chief Marketing Officer Kirby Gordon is defending the hikes and is looking forward to engaging with the commission.

“We have heard from the Competition Commission, they have requested that we have a meeting in the next couple of days, which is great,” said Gordon.

“It’s fantastic to have an organisation and we as a competitor in the industry really appreciate such an organisation that is active in perusing in taking a look at what is happening in the market, it protects us as a player as much as it protects the consumer so it’s wonderful to engage with them.

“We are looking forward to that… we realistically approaching the first long weekend of the year, regardless the prices were going to be high as it were, and probably sold out anyhow.“
