The destruction of crops by heavy rains in some parts of the country is likely to trigger increases in food prices, according to the South African Farmers Development Association.
The prices of crops like tomatoes and potatoes have already skyrocketed.
Many parts of the country such as Ladysmith, Bloemhof and the Drakensberg have been wrecked by heavy rains in the past weeks.
Several homes and infrastructure were damaged and families were displaced.
