Every single year, 3.1 billion people take to the skies to reach a far off destination. Vacations, business meetings, or even seeing a relative or friend that you haven’t seen in years. Traveling is about the destination and the journey has become more of a hassle than anything. The airplane hasn’t been redesigned in years. The biggest advancement I’ve noticed is the addition of the internet and TV on a dated screen in front of your face.
Well CPI (Center for Process Innovation) has taken it upon themselves to revolutionize the airline industry and create a windowless plane.
CPI has plans to lower fuel consumption and offer an incredible view out of a windowless plane. And no, not out of a small 1 foot by 8 inch window.
They plan on eliminating windows all together and wrapping the interior walls of the plane with OLED screens that will display the skies from cameras mounted outside.
Airplane windows are very heavy and thick. This means the plane walls are thicker and heavier to accommodate them. With OLED panels and eliminating the windows, planes will be much lighter and more fuel economic. The panels will be touch screen so you can personalize your flight experience.
The OLED panels will provide a complete realistic view of the skies surrounding you, giving you a sense of flying without a vessel wrapped around you. This might pose as a problem for people afraid of flying.
I think this would take a lot of getting used to but it would be pretty awesome. You’d really have a sense of freedom while flying and the journey will be just as exciting as the destination.
Take a look at a video about this technology below.
