July Unrest report: We responded swiftly, says SANDF

South Africa

Johannesburg – The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) maintains it did not react late to the deadly July unrest.

The expert panel report released on Monday found the response of police and intelligence services was inadequate and insufficient.

The army had to be deployed to assist the police with the situation.

However, SANDF spokesperson Andries Mahapa said the situation could have been worse.
