Johannesburg – Communications authority, ICASA should only take away the temporary spectrum when it auctions it in March.
That is the view of one analyst as the major mobile operators, MTN, Vodacom and Telkom take ICASA to court on the issue.
According to Dobek Pater, ICASA’s argument that the continuation of the temporary spectrum is unfair, does not hold water.
In 2020, the communications authority allocated temporary additional spectrum to telecommunications firms.
This was to help cope with the increase in data traffic caused by more people working and schooling from home because of the pandemic.
The mobile companies say that the regulator’s decision to take back the spectrum will have dire consequences on consumers and the economy.
