South Africa’s new sprint sensation Phathutshedzo Maswanganyi has officially cliched a double qualification for both the 100m and 200m events for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.

The 20-year-old freshman at the University of Houston first caught the eye of South Africans with his record-breaking exploits for the University’s Cougars Athletics side, notching up extraordinary sub-10 and sub-20 times in both the 100m and 200m at the American Outdoor Track & Field Championship, where Maswanganyi clocked times of 9:87 in the 100m.
He was able to see off stiff competition in the 200m, however, with a time of 20.19 also being sufficient to qualify Maswanganyi for the 200m race in Tokyo next month.

Maswanganyi went on to his official Twitter platform to post the qualification videos, following them with the caption: “The road to the Olympic Games is no longer a dream but a reality for me. 100m & 200m Qualifier”.
