Johannesburg – Government is not being given more time to prepare its defence of the tobacco sales ban.
This is its second attempt at a postponement and it has been dismissed.
The Fair Trade Independent Tobacco Association took government to court over the prohibition of the sale of cigarettes. Government says a postponement should be granted because the country has now moved to level 3.
Judge President Dustan Mlambo says both parties agreed the matter would be heard in June. If the government still sees the need to apply for a postponement, it should do so according to the rules of the court.
The case is due in court next week.
