No tax increases expected in February, says analysts

Johannesburg – Taxes are unlikely to be hiked in the February Budget, that is according to analysts.

They said the Medium Term Budget, which was delivered on Thursday, had no hints that consumers would be faced with higher tax bills.

There had been concerns ahead of the budget that Minister Enoch Godongwana would hint at tax increases as he faced growing spending pressures.

However, the government received R120 billion more in tax revenue, mainly as a result of a well-performing mining sector.

Tax experts said Treasury is well aware that consumers, who are already cash-strapped, have been overburdened with hikes.
