Johannesburg – With more South African going back to work this week, the use of electricity is in the spotlight once again.
The national lockdown has eased pressure on the grid in the last few weeks.
Energy demand has declined by 30% across the globe due to lockdowns that is according to the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI). Consumption has dropped by an estimated 15% in South Africa. This was due to pick up again when operation in industries such as mining and refineries resume.
“We as individual consumers can and should be very wary of our energy consumption in this period because we cannot afford to go into a situation where we are still in a Covid-19 situation with load shedding as a scenario,” said the general manager for energy efficiency at SANEDI, Barry Bredenkamp.
