Johannesburg – Lawyers representing the wife of former Minister of Finance Malusi Gigaba said on Monday they will be challenging the involvement of the Hawks in the case against their client.
On Monday, Norma Gigaba appeared in the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court, facing charged of malicious damage to property and crimen injuria.
This follows her arrest on Friday after her husband opened a case against her claiming she had damaged a luxury vehicle.
Gigaba has been advised not to speak to the media.
One of her lawyers, Victor Nkhwashu said she has been traumatised by her overnight stay in Brooklyn Police Station’s holding cells and they will be probing the involvement of the Hawks in the matter.
Advocacy group Wise 4 Africa said there are many unanswered questions about how she was arrested and it will be following the matter closely.
Gigaba’s bail has been extended until her next court appearance and she has been allowed to return to her marital home.
