Overnight storms bring relief from the heat

Many parts of South Africa experienced tremendous relief from the heat after overnight rain and thunderstorms in many parts of the country.

According to the weather service, the rain is expected to persist in Gauteng, the western parts of Mpumalanga, eastern parts of North West as well as the eastern parts of the Free State on Friday.

Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, the North West, Free State and the Northern Cape have experienced unusually high temperatures, with the mercury rising above 40 degrees in certain places.

But it has become much cooler on Friday after overnight rain and thunderstorms that were experienced in many parts.

Durban and Johannesburg experienced lightning storms on Thursday night.
