The South African Medical Association says it will ensure that all unemployed intern doctors are placed in January.
This drive comes at a time when hospitals are facing critical shortages of staff.
Earlier this month, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced that over 5,000 posts need to be filled.
There’s also a concern over the assignment of doctors to institutions that do not have the capacity to employ them.
The medical association’s chairperson Dr Angelique Coetzee says they’ve been engaging with the Health Department to ensure these doctors are reassigned to nearby institutions.
She says this process should be completed by the end of business on Friday.
