Johannesburg – Another operator in the liquor industry has come out asking Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana to announce a 0% tax increase on alcohol in his budget speech next month.

SAB said government should not seek to derive revenue from an industry brought to its knees by alcohol bans.

South Africa’s largest brewer has also called on government to consider granting a reduced excise duty.

Earlier this week, liquor traders shared the same sentiment, saying the sector – which employs more than a quarter of a million people – is still reeling from lockdown restrictions.
The association said government must consider alternatives to support liquor traders.
