Steve Harvey and Mo’Nique’s interview on Wednesday quickly turned into an intense clash over her claims that she was shut out of Hollywood in 2010.
The 51-year-old actress and comedian appeared on Harvey’s talk show to discuss how she and her husband and manager, Sidney Hicks, got labelled as “difficult” after she refused to campaign for the 2009 movie Precious without additional pay.
“Now I said no to some very powerful people…the difficulty came in when people that looked like me, like Oprah, Tyler, Lee Daniels and I got to put my brother Steve on the list.”
“Y’all knew that I was not wrong. Each one of you said to me, ‘Mo’Nique, you’re not wrong’, said Mo’Nique.
Harvey then responded by telling Mo’Nique she “went about it wrong”.
The comedian received backlash on social media after he insinuated that Mo’Nique should have placed money over integrity for the sake of her “legacy”.
By the end of the conversation, the longtime friends agreed that conversations between everyone involved need to happen in order to move forward.
So… to be COMPLETELY CLEAR.
Steve Harvey is admitting Mo’Nique’s been telling the truth the entire time, but his point is you have to shuck and jive for these white folks money, integrity be damned.
And y’all are siding with Steve.

If you’re willing to put your success above your integrity, you’ve already lost. The rhetoric Steve Harvey is pushing is a dangerous one. Black people should never tell Black people they need to minimize themselves for the comfort of white people. https://t.co/rEYDLIM2B2
