Truck driver bust smuggling 87 undocumented Malawians to Durban

A truck driver was busted smuggling 87 illegal immigrants Malawians to Durban.  The truck was found outside Polokwane on September 12 2018. 
Police officers in Limpopo made the discovery when they pulled over the truck due to a traffic offense committed. This happened in the early hours of Wednesday. Police were then  surprised to make a discovery of 87 illegal immigrants packed inside the truck. The illegal immigrants were traveling from Malawi to Durban.
Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the driver‚ about 50‚ was arrested for bribery after being confronted as the vehicle entered the Polokwane Traffic Control Centre.

“Subsequently‚ the provincial traffic police officers pulled it off [the road] and discovered 87 undocumented Malawian nationals. The driver was immediately arrested. The police were summoned and started with initial investigations‚” he said.

According to investigations made, the truck was heading to Durban. The driver will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
