Johannesburg – Vaccine drives across the country need to be significantly ramped up to avoid more Covid-19 waves.
This is according to Wits University Professor Francois Venter.

Venter said more people need to get to vaccination sites.
So far 10,5 million doses have been administered in the country.
“If we’re going to avoid another wave of terrible death and long Covid disability, we really need to go faster,” Venter said.

“We keep dropping the over 60s and we get a rush of other people but we are still behind in terms of numbers. If we don’t speed up we’re only going to get to two-thirds of the population by the middle of next year, meaning we’ll be in the fourth, fifth, or not even close to vaccinating the full population by the sixth wave of COVID.”
