In Ivory Coast, twins are widely seen as a strange and even supernatural phenomenon – a popular belief that makes them vulnerable to being presented like fairground attractions as well as beggars.
But voices are now calling for a change in attitudes.
Aicha Cisse, who is a mother of twins says: “I don’t like being out with the kids by the roadside. I do it because of poverty. I go out with them because of poverty.”
