The beloved South African actress Christine Basson has died, according to online reports.
Best known for her roles as Nora Naudé in the M-Net soapie, Egoli. She celebrated her 78th birthday on Sunday, 9 June and was a resident at the Ekklesia Park retirement village at the time of her death.
Netwerk24 reported that Christine died at 04:45 on Monday morning.

Meiring also told Jacaranda FM that Basson ” was in the high care unit and was struggling to breath and swallow” shortly before her passing.
Controversial Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr also paid tribute to Basson, calling her a mentor. “Tot siens wonderlike vrou, mentor en kollega,” he wrote next to a report of her death.
Basson was a professional actress, drama teacher and radio presenter for more than 30 years, working on productions in both English and Afrikaans.
