Govt miscalculates petrol price hike

South Africa

Johannesburg – The Energy Department made a mistake when it announced the fuel price hikes.

Petrol has increased by 75 cents per litre and not the initial 81 cents it had announced.

The department said it overstated the prices by 6 cents. It has instructed stakeholder to effect the changes with immediate effect.

On Tuesday, petrol stations were packed as motorists tried to fill up before the announced price hike.

The new price kicked in on Wednesday morning.
