Investment outside South Africa surges

South Africa

It seems South African investors are finding more value outside the country.

That’s according to a new report by US research firm, Real Capital Analytics.

It’s found South African-based property investors are putting more money into foreign markets than ever before.

Around R68-billion was invested last year alone.

It’s on the back of weaker-than-expected economic growth in the first quarter of this year, meaning investors will likely continue exploring overseas exposure.

In addition, the buying of properties locally has fallen by more than 50 percent between 2017 and 2018.

Companies have now become net sellers of assets in South Africa.

The capital outflows highlight the challenges President Cyril Ramaphosa’s government faces in trying to drive investment into the country and kickstarting economic growth.
