Cape Town – A fire erupted at Nomzamo informal settlement in Strand, just outside Cape Town on Wednesday night.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and authorities are yet to estimate the damage caused.

Fires are a common thing in informal settlements around the city of Cape Town, especially in the winter season.

Last week, more than 200 people living in Lusaka informal settlement in Crossroads were left destitute after a fire destroyed over 50 shacks.

Earlier this year, a fire that broke out in Masiphumelele, another informal settlement outside Cape Town, left around 600 people homeless.
