Police instability: Cele denies animosity with Sithole

South Africa

Cape Town – Police Minister Bheki Cele denies there’s any animosity between him and national police commissioner, Khehla Sithole.

According to Cele, while they can’t be considered friends, their working relationship is not causing instability within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The two men have been put on the spot in Parliament following months of reports that they do not see eye to eye.

“There are things we do not agree upon, but it’s not animosity, we are not fighting,” said Cele.

“But I can assure you, we work together.”

The police’s top brass said its budget cuts and ever-diminishing boots on the ground that’s causing instability within the force, and not claims of political interference or frosty relations.
